THE PROJECT
WISE-COOL (Wise Interoperability for Secure and Efficient Climate Optimization & Outstanding Living) aims to realize a software/hardware solution that can precisely control the indoor conditions of each room by optimizing energy consumption for cooling/heating and maximizing indoor comfort for occupants. A real-time DigitalTwin model will be defined to monitor and control indoor areas. The solution is based on the ability to identify the presence of occupants within a single room through a WiFi scanning device and indoor environmental conditions through Agrumino, Lifely’s IoT device. By adding actuators, such as split A/C, smart radiators or window-opening system, an appropriate Edge AI model can optimize energy consumption, maximizing living comfort and ensuring the security of user data. Finally, a mobile application allows users to control the apartment’s DigitalTwin and trains the AI model on user preferences.
OBJECTIVES
WISE-COOL strives to realize an innovative software-hardware solution, ensuring precise control of indoor conditions, minimizing energy consumption for building heating and cooling, and improving indoor comfort by providing users with personalized services. Planned activities will address the challenge of Nephele Use Case No. 3 to propose a complete solution by leveraging the developed VOStack. WISE-COOL aligns perfectly with NEPHELE’s vision, emphasizing semantic interoperability, real-time control, and open-source solution.
TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODOLOGIES
The solution is based on two main components: Agrumino, to capture indoor conditions in each room, and a WiFi sniffing device, to detect nearby connected devices and identify people in each room. The architecture is based on a set of cVOs representing each IoT sensor and thermal actuator, to maximize interoperability. An Edge AI model will run in real time to pursue maximum thermal efficiency and adapt to user habits. A mobile application provides real-time interaction with the home’s DigitalTwin.
MISSION AND IMPACT
The project aims to address major challenges, such as energy consumption for home heating and the growing interest in smart control systems in the smart home market. WISE-COOL will develop a demonstrator to improve indoor comfort by reducing the energy consumption required for cooling and heating, thus helping to reduce environmental impact and costs for citizens. The implemented solution aims to be easily expandable and based on artificial intelligence strategies to optimize home energy use, thus addressing EU challenges related to home heating and the growth of the smart home market.
